"Professional Reassurance is customer guarantee
against cowboy garages says local company"
In the wake of the Office of fair trading (OFT) inquiry into standards
of car servicing and repair, local company Croyde Motors is reassuring
customers that there is a scheme in the area which monitors standards
of professionalism and provides peace of mind.
Based at Jones Hill, Croyde Motors is an accredited member of The Professional
Reassurance scheme run by the Institute of the Motor Industry ( IMI ),
which is the professional body for individuals working in the motor industry.
The scheme's Brass Plaque is a highly visible benchmark of professional
reassurance, which indicates that people listed on it are professionally
qualified to do the job. Only those organisations employing personnel
who have elected into IMI membership are eligible to display the plaque.
Individuals listed on the Brass Plaque are bound by a strict Code of
Conduct and all plaque holders are reviewed annually by the Institute.
There are some 220 organisations accredited to the Professional reassurance
scheme. The Institute believes that it could be developed as a licensing
system for individuals, who could be prevented from working in this sector
if it is found that they lack the necessary skills. Such a move would,
it is believed, help to raise standards and consumer confidence in an
industry which, according to research carried out by the IMI, faces skills
shortages and a continuing image problem.
Commented Roy Thackray MIMI at Croyde Motors, "The Brass Plaque
will let customers know that our staff are dedicated to providing the
highest levels of workmanship and customer care. It will clearly help
to promote the professional image of our company across the area."
